Tamil cinema has done a wonderful performance this year comparing to all of these years in Kollywood history in terms of numbers. 125 movies have come out from Kollywood in this year alone.This year also have a uniqueness as there was no movie from either Rajini or Kamal.  This happened only in the year 1975 and this has repeated again in 2011. ..................

Ajith and Vijay are now facing competition from next generation (though equally aged) actors like Suriya and Vikram. Out of the 125 movies released, only very few managed to yield a commercial success.  Many movies like Aarya Kaandam, Thoonga Nakaram, Azakar Samiyin Kuthirai, Muran, Vengaayam, Yuththam chei, Kulla Nari Koottam etc failed in commercial but were successful in getting away with awards. From 2010, Tamil cinema is seeing a tremundous growth in terms of quality.  In 2011, Tamil cinema managed to get about 13 national awards for movies released during 2010 and already for the movies released during 2011 have got about 6 national awards. Mangaththa, Ko, Ayan are considered as the greatest success movies of this year - purely in terms of commercial success. Competition in Kollywood has taken a new trend that the movie team start celebrating as the movie was a great success on the second day or on the fifth day itself even though the movie goes disappeared even before 25 days running in theaters. Among year end movies, only Mambattiyan is doing business while Mayakkam Enna and Osthi has vanished silently.This year has made Ajith, Vijay, Suriya, Vikram, Kaarthi, Simbhu, Danush in leading race of Kollywood. Among the all listed above, it is only Ajith's movie Mangaththaa gave a commercial success!!! In comedy track it is Santhaanam who is comming as No 1 in Kollywood.
